Wellbeing Award
A nationally recognised Quality Mark for excellence in mental health and wellbeing.
About the Award
The Leaders in Safeguarding Wellbeing Award is an independent Quality Mark that recognises organisations demonstrating exceptional commitment to mental health and wellbeing.
Whether in a school, college, business, charity or public service environment, the Award provides a trusted way to evidence strong leadership, a positive culture, and effective systems that support the wellbeing of staff, learners, volunteers and wider communities.
It is awarded only following a rigorous external review, ensuring the recognition is meaningful, credible, and aligned with best practice.
There is an award framework for schools and colleges and a separate framework for business and charities. They emphasise the same core principles: strong leadership, an environment that values wellbeing, and systems that promote resilience, participation and appropriate support.
Why Wellbeing Matters
- Across all sectors, wellbeing is increasingly recognised as essential to organisational success:
- Legal and regulatory expectations require organisations to provide safe, supportive environments. Schools must follow guidance such as Keeping Children Safe in Education and the Education Staff Wellbeing Charter, while charities follow guidance from the Charities Commission and businesses are bound by only by health and safety and employment legislation.
- Recruitment and retention benefit significantly when mental health and wellbeing are prioritised. Younger professionals and early-career staff increasingly choose employers and educational settings that actively support wellbeing.
- Performance and productivity improve when people feel supported, valued, and connected to a positive culture.
- Reputation and community confidence grow when wellbeing is embedded and externally validated.
Key benefits include:
- Independent validation of your commitment to wellbeing
- Confidence and reassurance for staff, learners, volunteers, parents, carers, stakeholders and regulators
- A comprehensive audit report with practical recommendations for improvement
- Access to specialist tools, training and resources to help build capacity
- A prestigious certificate and digital badge to support branding, recruitment and public recognition
- Inclusion on the Leaders in Safeguarding published awards register
- A positive link to retention, engagement and organisational performance, whether in education or the workplace
- 12 months’ access to LIS helpline for continued support.
- Both versions of the Award stress that this is not a tick-box process. Only organisations that evidence sustained excellence achieve accreditation.
